“I started my journey 15 years ago when a friend asked me to check out whether or not investing in a spirits importing company was a prudent idea. So, I began my research, traveled to Russia, Ukraine, and China. I visited vodka distilleries, and tasted a lot of vodka. My family has been in the restaurant business for over 70 years, and one thing that I knew about the spirits business was that the suppliers and distributors were the people making the money. Vodka was my first endeavor into the business, and I found that different vodka “tastes” are a function of what the spirit is distilled from, the quality of the spirit, the quality of the water, and the filtration/and distillation process. I am not a chemist, but as I tasted different vodkas, I knew what tasted better to me. Winter Wheat from Ukraine seemed to be the product used in the best vodkas, so I focused on that. As I tried all of the quality products, I found that the combination of a Lux class spirit from Ukrainian Winter Wheat, spring water, and distilling 7 times seemed to be the best formula.

So, I spent the first 4 years building the infrastructure, getting contracts with the distillery, working with foreign governments, getting licenses, and putting together the best executive team. Then, I got a lot of my friends and family on-board, and cashed in my life. I put everything I had into building the brand…retirements, savings, stocks, everything. We then inked agreements with some of the largest distributors in the US, garnered some excellent marketing partnerships, and entered the requisite tasting competitions.

Our first gold medal was a surprise, but then every competition we entered over the first 2 years we won gold or double gold, including the WSWA Spirits Competition, Ultimate Spirits Challenge, ProdExpo in Russia (over 800 other vodkas), and finally the big one, the World Spirits Competition in San Francisco. Cigar and Spirits Magazine voted us in the top 5 best vodkas. Now, competitions ask us to enter.

We brought in our first container (2,000 cases) and launched with the NBA Phoenix Suns, at the US Airways Center. Within a few months we received orders for Value Added Packs, and were in all of the normal off-premise locations like BevMo, Total Wine, grocery stores, liquor stores, C stores, and over 300 on-premise locations in Arizona alone (our home market). We burned through that container much more quickly than I had anticipated. The response was unbelievable.

It was my passion to import spirits from the country where they were invented. Vodka from Ukraine (yes, it was invented in what is now Ukraine), tequila from Mexico, rum from Barbados, and of course bourbon from Kentucky. But, we also are very proud of our American vodka Wings, and supporting our military. Our portfolio has grown, and continues to grow, as we acquire, import, and supply the finest spirits to our distributors and retail customers around the world.

In addition to Fərst Vodka, our amazing vodka from Ukraine’s “fərst”, oldest, and most distinguished distillery, following the original 15th century formula, we have Wings, and American vodka dedicated to supporting our military, The Old Mill Caribbean Rum, with an 80-year history, WartHog bacon flavored Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, and Luna Malvada, an award winning tequila.”
